How to Ride a Horse with the help of Auxiliary Aids? by Aria Torres
Equine riding is a pleasurable and dexterous activity that comes with safety precautions. The rider should be able to know the significance and learn how to utilize the supporting aids such as the voice, whip and spurs. These three are very advantageous in communicating to the equine while illustrating the rider’s goals and in supporting the fundamental aids of the legs as well as reins.
The Voice
One of the most important factors to cause any reply from the animals like the equine is the voice. This can be used to little horses but not to big horses. Nevertheless, there are certain disciplines such as Dressage which do not allow verbal cues to equine. Horses are astute animals that can simply recognize the verbal signs by the tone of the voice. Their response can be caused by the approach and dealings of the rider. The horses respond tenderly to a smooth and relaxed way of talking. But, they can become active and anxious with abrupt and sharp commands.
Teaching a horse can be demanding because you need to be willing and fixed with the commands. Further exercises can be more effectual when a calm and persuasive voice is being used. But, if you want to strenghten a skill or dig up a response from the horse, a stimulating voice is very effective. Horses have sharp-witted hearing skills and are able to react depending on what they hear. A raise in voice or yelling can be distressing to the equine, thus it is not highly advisable since the foremost target of voice command is to increase the confidence of the horse.
The Whip
One more skill to be mastered in teaching or communicating with a horse is the use of a whip. Its duty is to initiate preparedness to the horse as well to encourage the engagement of the hind quarters. It is positioned across the rider’s thigh and point to the rear of the horse. It should be used with a short, sharp tap at the exact timing to allow the horse understand that the whip is also intended for communication. Once used mistakenly, it can lead the horse to turn out to be indifferent or become frightened to commands.
The Spurs
The spur is not just an accessory to the horse. It makes the application of the leg aids more refined and effective as well as reinforces a leg aid if the horse is not giving the desired response. The wearer must be able to apply his legs in a controlled manner, independent of the seat. Nevertheless, over usage is not a worthy idea too because it will make the horse either dull upon application or can get them scared.
