There are a few recommendations that are followed in order to make printing efficient and harmless to the environment. Avoiding bindings, adhesives, or foil stamps in packaging is one the ways by which eco friendly green printing can be achieved.
What types of papers are recommended for green printing?
Choosing papers that are 100% post-consumer waste, PCF or processed chlorine free, uncoated, FSC or Forest Stewardship Council certified, produced by renewable energy sources or even from like hemp and kenaf are the highly recommended ones.
What kind of inks can be used for this purpose?
Process of printing can be eco friendly when we start using vegetable-based inks or soy inks as a substitute of petroleum-based inks which are pollutants. These above recommended substitutes are low in VOCs as well as available in affordable price range. It is essential to avoid colors that are warm reds and metallic when using Pantone colors. We should be informed that these colors contain barium, copper, and zinc, which can cause health problems in humans.
How is the energy consumption in an eco friendly printing company?
Just like any other industry, a printing industry too has high level energy consumption needs. Right from the processing of paper, printing them and drying them, energy is used in many stages and forms. When we work towards bio degradable papers and inks for printing, it is important that we use renewable resources to create power instead of exhausting the non-renewable recourses. Harmful emissions has to be monitored, filtered and treated before it mixes with the atmosphere or the environment.
Another point that has become famous in this industry is the waterless printing method. In the conventional method of printing, the dampening process is omitted so that we achieve the waterless printing. This is an effective method to save fresh water which was used all these days for printing and had got polluted.
